On October 1, 2006 Kentucky's Graduated Driver License law took effect. The purpose of the legislation is to decrease the number of accidents involving Kentucky Teens. There is now an "intermediary phase" between the time a teen gets their learner's permit and an actual unrestriced license. Teens are restricted to no driving from midnight to 6 am, during the intermediary phase; except in emergency. Teens are also restricted to only one unrelated passenger under the age of twenty.
